President Bush, Republicans and the Environment

This morning on C-SPAN they were discussing some changes to how the U.S. government may be protecting our environment. I came in and heard them talking about relaxing the rules. I thought fantastic! They were going to make it easier for species to get on the list. Boy was I wrong.

What they were talking about was relaxing the rules on environmental impact studies. I mean making the government body responsible for a project use its own discretion as to whether a study is to be done or not.

It's almost like letting a do-it-yourselfer trying to plumb the Empire State Building, or if you prefer - the fox guarding the henhouse.
